Andrew Minty

P.G.A. Golf Professional - Golf Operations Manager

Andrew joins us here at Machynys from Langland Bay Golf Club where he spent 2 years as a Teaching Professional. Andrew started his career at Fairwood Park Golf Club where he was involved in group tuition, Video analysis and Custom Fitting since 1997.

During this time Andrew has attended coaching seminars at the Nick Faldo Institute in Florida in 1998 and the Dave Leadbetter Golf Academy at Champions Gate Florida 2001. He has also trained, practiced and received coaching at the Butch Harmon Academy in Rio Secco Las Vegas in 2004 and in 2007.

Andrew successfully completed the P.G.A. Diploma program obtaining an overall merit and gaining entry into the Professional Golfers Association in Sept 2004. Andrew obtained merit grades in Coaching, Custom fitting and club repair, and Business Management.

Andrew regularly competes on the West Region P.G.A. circuit but his passion is coaching. A previous client to note is George Clooney. They met at the Belfry where he assisted George with his putting and chipping technique.

"One of the most common mistakes recreational golfers make is to practice without purpose. They tend to go to the range, warm up with some irons and then whale away with their driver. There is no plan to what they are doing. My aim is to give you a structure and purpose to make practicing enjoyable."

In playing long-iron or fairway wood shots off hilly fairway lies, it is very important to try to re create as normal a situation as possible. Always play the ball closer to the higher foot, and your weight favoring your lower foot. In other words, on downhill lies, the ball needs to be closer to your right foot; on uphill lies, closer to your left foot
