Members of Machynys Peninsula Golf Club and their guests gathered together to raise funds for their fast developing junior section. Member and Construction site manager of Machynys Homes, Mick Slaughter, along with the Golf Operations manager Andrew Minty were instrumental in the planning and implementation of the event which was hugely successful.
The night included a sit down evening meal, along with a raffle and auction and was finished off in fine style by guest speaker and former Wales Rugby Coach, Gareth Jenkins. The evening raised £2000 which will now be used cover the cost of away matches, provide tuition to the team
Machynys Peninsula can already boast of some home successes this year. With Gregory Hicks being selected for the Welsh Under 14 Squad and William Griffiths (Junior Vice Captain) recently competing in the Ian Poulter Invitational Tournament at Woburn GC, it seems the funds raised from the event will only help drive the junior section onwards and upwards.
Machynys Peninsula Golf & Country Club now has the largest junior academy in Wales with over 200 children from 4 - 15 years old receiving weekly tuition from the clubs 4 PGA golf professionals. Furthermore, the club is doing all it can to encourage golf within the area by inviting local schools to participate and receive free tuition on a weekly basis. It has become so popular in certain schools, that it has been added to the curriculum!
